Contents: The Upper Harbour Motorway | The Hobsonville Section | Buckley Ave Interchange | Brigham Creek Interchange | Trig Road Interchange | Westgate Interchange | North Western Extension Due to heavy traffic demands on the two lane Upper Harbour Highway and the importance of the inter-city connection; between North Shore City and Waitakere City, a four lane motorway connecting the two in a safer, more efficient way was decided upon. This is an important motorway in the Auckland Region because it creates an alternative route north allowing an alternative to the clogged Southern and Northern Motorways. It adds another section to the Western Ring Motorway Network. The Upper Harbour Motorway is covered by two sections, currently you are on the Hobsonville Section page: - Section 1: Greenhithe Section and Upper Harbour Bridge Section Both Complete in 2007 $220m | Under Construction | Planned Completion: 2012 The Hobsonville section is the largest of the three sections Upper Harbour Sections extending from the Upper Harbour Bridge in North Shore City to Westgate and the North Western Extension in Waitakere City.
This interchange gives access to Buckley Ave and the Waitakere City side of the existing Upper Harbour Drive. It only gives access to the motorway heading northeast and access to Buckley Ave when heading west. The design is a traditional diamond[?], but in a half configuration.
This interchange will serve the same purpose which Brigham Creek Road currently serves for commuters traveling between State Highway Sixteen further north, and the surrounding area - for vehicles that travel over the Upper Harbour Bridge. Brigham Creek and Kauri Roads will be altered to make way for the interchange. The design is a diamond, but large, with round-about intersections[?].
A small interchange on Trig Road giving access to West Harbour without traveling to the Westgate Interchange. With north-eastbound access to the motorway and westbound access to Trig Road only. The design is a traditional diamond, but in a half configuration[?].
The Westgate Interchange is the largest interchange on the Upper Harbour Motorway because it links in with the North Western and the North Western Extension. This will only offer connections to and from the North Western Motorway and connections from Hobsonville Road to and from the Upper Harbour Motorway - and existing connections to and from the North Western. This interchange does not offer connections to and from the Upper Harbour Motorway to the North Western Extension, because this traffic can use the existing Brigham Creek Road, via the upgraded interchange (as most traffic currently does).
North Western Extension, Existing State Highway Sixteen and Brigham Creeek Road Interchange The interchange connecting the North Western extension and Brigham Creek Road to State Highway Sixteen will be a round-about.
