Previous Victoria Park Tunnel & Viaduct proposals
Four options were proposed for the upgrade of the Victoria Park corridor. Namely: widening the existing viaduct, a sunken motorway, full two way tunnel or a partial tunnel (keeping the viaduct with a northbound tunnel). The partial tunnel option was chosen.
Option A was rejected because of concerns of air pollution in the park, also the construction process would have been difficult as the existing viaduct could not have been widened.
Option B was rejected because it required more park space than a tunnel, partial tunnel or even a wider viaduct. It also meant that air pollution was more condensed.
Option C was rejected because of cost and difficult construction process below the existing viaduct.

Option A: Widen the existing viaduct by two lanes to a total of six lanes.

Option B: Sunken motorway.

Option C: Full two way tunnel.
