Onewa Road Interchange

Complete $33m.

The existing Onewa Road Interchange was old and had safety issues. The new interchange offers safer connections to the motorway and provides better access for public transport. The old bridges have been demolished and two new box girder bridges have been constructed.

Key Construction Facts and Dates:
- The new intersection layout opened on the 20th of June 2008.
- The Citybound on-ramp and busway opened on Monday the 15th of September 2008.
- The opening was held on the 20th of November 2008
- Final southbound off-ramp to complete the interchange was opened on the 21st of November 2008.
- The southbound off-ramp was closed for 18 months to allow construction.
- A truck with a digger (un-related to contractors and construction) crashed into the old Onewa overbridge and closed the motorway for most of the day for half of the old bridge to be demolished early on October 3rd 2008.
